Zelensky Asks Biden to Impose New Sanctions Against Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has requested U.S. President Joe Biden to impose new sanctions against Russia, according to CNN and reported by RIA Novosti.
Their phone conversation took place last Friday, coinciding with the U.S. announcement of a new phase of anti-Russian restrictions due to military operations in Ukraine.
CNN cites “multiple sources” indicating that Zelensky is demanding new measures to isolate Russia from international trade and to expand personal sanctions against Russian elites.
“Zelensky also mentioned the closure of Russia's access to international waters,” the statement said.
On Friday, the United States announced its intention to revoke Russia's most favored nation trade status, prohibit the supply of cash dollars into the country, and impose a ban on the export of luxury goods.
