Azerbaijan to Increase Natural Gas Supplies to Europe via Turkey
Azerbaijan intends to increase the supply of natural gas to Europe via Turkey, and this issue is being discussed with both Baku and Brussels, reported the country's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov.
"Natural gas supplies to Europe will increase. Together with Turkey, we can deliver large volumes of gas to Europe. We are in contact with the EU and our brotherly Turkey on this matter," Shahbazov was quoted by the Turkish newspaper Milliyet.
Azerbaijan began commercial gas supplies to Europe through the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline on December 31, 2020, which are planned for a period of 25 years, aiming to export over 10 billion cubic meters of gas annually to the European market, of which Italy will receive 8 billion cubic meters, and 1 billion cubic meters will go to Greece and Bulgaria each.
The minister stated that Azerbaijan has natural gas reserves sufficient for both domestic consumption and for supplying Europe for the next 100 years. "We have 2.6 trillion cubic meters of proven gas reserves. We can supply natural gas to ourselves, our partners, and Europe for 100 years," he noted.
