Facebook and Instagram Allow Calls for Violence Against Russian Soldiers
The American company Meta has temporarily allowed calls for violence against Russian soldiers on Facebook and Instagram amid the ongoing Russian military operation in Ukraine. However, calls for violence against Russian civilians remain prohibited.
“We have temporarily made available forms of political expression that would normally violate our rules, including violent rhetoric, such as ‘death to Russian invaders.’ We will not permit calls for violence against Russian civilians,” wrote Meta spokesperson Andy Stone on Twitter.
Earlier reports by Reuters indicated that in some countries, Facebook and Instagram would not block calls for violence against military personnel, as well as death threats voiced against the leaders of Russia and Belarus in Poland, Russia, and Ukraine.
