Azerbaijan Unveils 5 Key Points for Normalizing Relations with Armenia
Baku is ready for substantive and intensive negotiations with Yerevan on the signing of a peace agreement, provided that Armenia accepts five fundamental principles, stated Leyla Abdullayeva, the head of the press service of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The five key principles for the normalization of relations between the two countries were communicated to Yerevan through intermediaries a few days ago. Both countries (Azerbaijan and Armenia) can sign a peace agreement based on these principles through intensive, substantive, practical, and result-oriented negotiations, said Abdullayeva.
The points are outlined as follows:
- Mutual recognition of sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of state borders, and political independence of each other.
- Mutual confirmation of the legal obligation to refrain from territorial claims against each other and not to make such claims in the future.
- Refraining from threatening each other's security in inter-state relations, threatening political independence and territorial integrity, and actions inconsistent with the goals of the UN Charter.
- Delimitation and demarcation of the border, and establishment of diplomatic relations.
- Opening of transport communications, establishing other relevant communications, and cooperation in mutually interesting sectors.
