Peskov on Russia's Exit from the Council of Europe

Russia's withdrawal from the Council of Europe implies a departure from all its mechanisms. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, as reported by TASS.

It should be noted that the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the country no longer intends to participate in the Council of Europe. The Russian Federation is no longer planning to engage with the Council of Europe, as EU and NATO countries, which are unfriendly towards Russia, are abusing their overwhelming majority in the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and continuing a line to destroy the common humanitarian and legal space in Europe.

According to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry, “The course of events is becoming irreversible. Russia does not intend to put up with these destructive actions taken by the collective West, which is imposing a ‘rules-based order’ in place of the violated rights of the United States and its satellite international law.”

“Russia will not participate in the transformation of a European oldest organization into another platform for Western superiority and self-satisfaction by NATO countries and the obediently following EU. Let them enjoy communication among themselves without Russia,” the ministry emphasized.
