Criminal Case Launched for Defaming Vahagn Alexanyan as 'Dirty Pig'

Lawyer Alexander Kochubaev has reported on his Facebook page that a criminal case has been opened against member of the National Assembly from the ruling Civil Contract party, Vahagn Alexanyan, for referring to him as a 'dirty pig'.

"Recently, a criminal case has been initiated against Vahagn Alexanyan, a member of the RA National Assembly, for calling him 'dirty pig'. The National Police of the Republic of Armenia has contacted Alexanyan to clarify whether he feels insulted by being called a dirty pig, to which Alexanyan responded that yes, he is indeed offended by being referred to in that manner. Consequently, a criminal case has been opened, and the legal question will be examined regarding whether calling Alexanyan a 'dirty pig' is defamatory, an opinion, a fact, as well as other circumstances that need clarification.

Armen Asatryan has not yet been charged, but considering the nature of the term 'dirty pig', I believe that charges would be appropriate," added Kochubaev.
