Will Armenia Restore Diplomatic Relations with Hungary? - 'Fact'
According to the 'Fact' newspaper, we reported days ago, referencing our diplomatic sources, that the current authorities want to restore diplomatic relations with Hungary, which were suspended on August 31, 2012, after Azerbaijan's military officer Ramil Safarov, convicted of murdering Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan in Budapest, was extradited to Azerbaijan and immediately pardoned by Ilham Aliyev.
We also noted that the initiative to restore diplomatic relations comes from the Armenian authorities. The 'Fact' newspaper sent a written inquiry to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, asking if Armenia is planning to restore diplomatic relations with Hungary, and if so, what is the reason behind such a decision.
The Foreign Ministry did not reject our information but refused to provide any details on the matter. In their response to our inquiry, they stated, 'In response to your request, we inform you that the information you requested cannot be provided in accordance with point 2 of Annex No. 1002-N of the order of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia dated June 16, 2017, which establishes the expanded list of confidential information of the RA MFA system. At the same time, we inform you that the public will be duly notified in case new public information arises regarding such processes.'
