What's Happening in the Egg Market: Government Discusses Processing Opportunities
In Armenia, the current supply of eggs is sufficient to achieve self-sufficiency, with even a surplus available. This was stated by Gegham Gevorgyan, the chairman of the Competition Protection Commission of the Republic of Armenia, during a government session.
“Right now we are discussing with the Ministry of Economy and poultry farmers how to direct this surplus positively through processing and exports, so that these issues (i.e., fluctuations in egg prices) are resolved. The case in the egg market this year has been unique, as the price drop occurred due to small-scale producers, whose market share does not exceed 5 percent. This has triggered a chain reaction. Regarding the prices of eggs ahead of the Easter holiday, I can say that we are able to monitor the issues. Over the past two years, our producers have understood that the evidential basis is solid. Our appeal is that we avoid any intervention whatsoever,” Gevorgyan stated.
Gegham Gevorgyan also informed that this year they have studied the markets for chicken meat and dairy products, noting that poultry meat was predominantly imported from Ukraine but, for understandable reasons, the geographical sources will change to the USA and Brazil.
