Recognition of Donetsk and Luhansk Aimed at Stopping the Massacre in Donbas, Says Duma Speaker
Recognition of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) and the Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR) by Russia and the ratification of agreements with them should put an end to the massacre of civilians, including Russian citizens. This was stated by Vyacheslav Volodin, the Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, on his Telegram channel.
On February 21, following an extraordinary meeting of the Security Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the citizens of Russia, indicating the necessity of making an immediate decision to recognize the sovereignty of the LPR and DPR. Immediately thereafter, the president signed decrees recognizing the LPR and DPR, as well as assistance agreements in the Kremlin.
“In a situation where we are facing a humanitarian disaster, seeing how tens of thousands of refugees, women, and children are forced to leave their homes, the only way out is to make this decision,” Volodin emphasized.
As the Russian politician noted, Moscow has long demanded that Kyiv adhere to the Minsk agreements. However, Kyiv has disregarded them and has begun bombing the peaceful citizens of Donbas, according to Volodin.
He mentioned that the United States is interested in ensuring that the conflict continues, while European countries have unfortunately been unable to influence these processes.
“As for unfriendly decisions and sanctions, they will be adopted in any case. Just as they were adopted in the past, without any reason or even occasion. The United States and their satellite allies do not need a strong Russia, and they will do everything to hinder the development of our country,” the Speaker of the State Duma stated.
