Identity of Driver and 13-Year-Old Boy Who Died in Tragic Car Accident Established
The identity of the driver who perished in the tragic car accident that occurred in the Dilijan bends on February 12 has been established, along with that of a deceased passenger and injured individuals transported to the hospital, according to a decision by the senior investigator of particularly important cases at the Tavush regional investigative department of the Armenian Investigative Committee, Smbat Saghatelyan.
As reported by shamshyan.com, the Mercedes was driven by 70-year-old Gagik Sargsyan, a resident of the Kotayk region, who died at the scene. Also deceased was 13-year-old Ara Revazyan from Vanadzor. Passengers who were injured include 35-year-old Syuzanna Revazyan and 15-year-old Malena Revazyan, both residents of Vanadzor.
Earlier reports indicated that a severe and tragic car accident occurred in the Tavush region on February 12. Around 07:30, the Ministry of Emergency Situations received a call at the 9-11 crisis management center, reporting that a vehicle had fallen into a gorge at the 27th km of the Yerevan-Sevan-Ijevan highway, specifically in the first zone of the Dilijan bends, and that there might be casualties.
Rescue teams from Lake Sevan and road police faced significant difficulties in retrieving the bodies of approximately 70-year-old men and 12-15-year-old boys from the gorge using ropes. One of the deceased was removed from the vehicle by the Sevan rescuers, while the other was found outside of the vehicle.
The on-duty medical team from Sevan hospital also acted promptly, transporting the bodies of the deceased to the morgue. At the site, doctors from Dilijan provided initial aid to two of the injured before transferring them to the Dilijan medical center.
The Mercedes, while heading toward Dilijan, crossed into the opposite lane, collided with metal guardrails, knocked them down, and ended up in the forest, breaking several thick trees. The bodies of the deceased were found outside of the vehicle.
