Airplane Makes Emergency Landing in Chișinău Due to Ban on Entering Ukrainian Airspace

A Ukrainian Sky Up airline plane made an emergency landing in Chișinău after being prohibited from entering Ukrainian airspace, the carrier's press service reported.

The company clarified that the aircraft with the registration number UR-SQO, which was en route from Madeira to Kyiv, had to land in the capital of Moldova due to the owner's directives.

“On February 12, 2022, the Irish resident lessor informed the airline about an immediate ban on the flight of the UR-SQO aircraft into Ukrainian airspace. Despite all efforts by the airline and the willingness of Ukrainian state structures to contact the lessor, the aircraft's owner categorically refused at the time when the plane was already en route to Kyiv,” the statement said.

It was noted that SkyUp agreed to land at an airport close to Ukraine. There were 175 passengers on board the aircraft.
