Countries Urge Their Citizens in Ukraine to Leave
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia is appealing to its citizens in Ukraine due to the high likelihood of further escalation of the situation. The Ministry reports that the Embassy in Kyiv and the Consulates in Odesa and Donetsk are entering into emergency mode.
“Georgia is closely monitoring the processes in Ukraine. We maintain constant communication with both our partners in Ukraine and with partner countries and organizations. A ‘hotline’ is functioning for Georgian citizens in Ukraine. At the same time, Georgia’s diplomatic representations are in constant contact with the citizens of the country and are advising them to consider the serious security situation,” the Georgian Foreign Ministry stated.
The Georgian Foreign Ministry also reminded that the USA and EU member countries have already urged their citizens to leave Ukraine. “Therefore, in light of the current situation, we urge Georgian citizens to stay in touch with the Georgian Embassy, both for operational information and for material and informational support,” the statement reads.
The Swiss Foreign Ministry has advised its citizens to avoid travel to Ukraine for tourism or other reasons that are not urgent. A corresponding statement has been posted on the Swiss Foreign Ministry's website. “Visiting Ukraine for tourism or other reasons that do not have an urgent nature is not recommended. In general, it is advised not to travel to certain regions of the country,” the statement reads.
The Ministry clarified that this guidance results from the diplomatic department’s situation analysis.
The Spanish authorities are ready to evacuate their embassy staff in Kyiv if necessary, but have not yet taken such measures. This was reported to TASS by the Spanish Foreign Ministry. “We are analyzing the situation through discussions with our EU and NATO partners and allies. We have an evacuation mechanism that will be implemented if necessary,” they stated.
The German Foreign Ministry has urged its citizens to leave Ukraine if their stay in the country is not essential. This announcement has been posted on the official website of the German foreign policy department. “If you are currently in Ukraine, think about whether it is necessary for you to stay there. If not, leave in the short term,” the statement reads.
In light of the escalation of the situation around Ukraine, various countries have called on their citizens to avoid visiting the country and those already in Ukrainian territory to leave. These countries include the USA, the UK, France, Switzerland, Canada, Belgium, Kuwait, and others.
