More than 15 vehicles collide in emergency situation on Yerevan-Sevan highway

On February 5, an emergency situation occurred in the Kotayk region. From 08:30 to 10:00, over 15 vehicles collided on the 15-16 km stretch of the Yerevan-Sevan highway due to black ice on the road.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, several vehicles collided with metal guardrails, two flipped over, and several others overturned. The police are trying to identify the drivers.

Drivers caught in the accident told the photojournalist, “The entire road was black ice, a mirror. There was no salt or sand spread. That’s why more than 20 vehicles collided with each other. Some vehicles didn’t even wait for insurance to arrive. They turned their cars around with their own means and towed them away. If the maintenance organization had carried out the work of spreading salt and sand on time, this chaotic situation wouldn’t have occurred. It took them an hour and a half after the accident to finally do their job. When we asked who they were, they said they were from the Kotayk road department.”

The photojournalist also reports that the vehicles involved in the accident include Mercedes, Nissan, Opel, Mitsubishi, and others.
