US Promises Heavier Sanctions Against Russia

The financial sanctions that the United States intends to impose on Russia in the event of escalating tensions in Ukraine will be heavier than the sanctions imposed in 2014. This was reported by the White House, according to Armenpress.

A senior official from the Biden administration stated during a press briefing that the current fluctuations in the value of the ruble reflect the significance of the economic sanctions that the United States is prepared to impose.

Washington also reminded that following the annexation of Crimea in 2014, the sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation led to a 50 percent depreciation of the Russian ruble, and the Central Bank of Russia spent 25 percent of its reserve fund in an effort to maintain currency stability.

Today, in conjunction with the increasing international tensions surrounding Ukraine, the Russian ruble continues to decline due to the heightened geopolitical risks. According to Russian media reports, 1 dollar is worth 79 rubles, while 1 euro is worth 89 rubles.
