“Roughly Speaking, We Are Needed by No One”: Lukashenko
The President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, has stated that the country must be prepared for any developments, both within its borders and near its borders.
“We must be ready for any development of events. Understand this. The issue is not inside us. Just as back then, during the Patriotic War of 1812, during World War I, and in the Great Patriotic War… Roughly speaking, we are needed by no one. You know what they need,” Lukashenko was quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to him, the example of how decisively Belarus can act was demonstrated in 2020, during the presidential election campaign and its aftermath. “I had to mobilize half of the army and direct it to the western side of the country. What happened inside was just flowers. The fruits were out there. And if we hadn’t thwarted their actions in time, perhaps the situation would have developed differently,” Lukashenko commented.
