Paraguayan Soldier Killed by Antelope at Presidential Palace

A Paraguayan soldier has been killed by an antelope that attacked him, striking him in the chest with its antlers, according to The Guardian. The incident occurred while the soldier was on duty protecting the presidential residence in the capital, Asunción.

The victim, 42-year-old Víctor Isasi Flecha, died from puncture wounds inflicted by the animal, which resides within the palace grounds. According to the Ministry of the Environment, the antelope involved is an axis deer, a gift from India to the presidential residence.

Press secretary Víctor Urdapilleta stated that the soldier approached the area where the animals live for unknown reasons and made a frightening movement toward the axis, prompting the attack. The incident was captured on camera. The soldier succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

It is known that these animals live in a specially enclosed area and should not have any contact with humans.
