107 million dollars to be allocated to the families of passengers killed by Iran's downed plane

The Ontario court in Canada has ruled that 107 million Canadian dollars (approximately 83.94 million USD), along with interest, must be paid to the families of six individuals who lost their lives in the downing of a Ukraine International Airlines aircraft near Tehran, as reported by The Guardian.

The six individuals are the spouses, siblings, children, and relatives of the victims of flight 752. This was announced on Monday by their attorney, Mark Arnold. They had filed a civil lawsuit against Iran and other officials whom they believe are responsible for the tragedy.

The attorney stated that his team would seek to seize Iranian assets in Canada and abroad. He mentioned that Iran has oil tankers in other countries, and his team would attempt to place liens on these to ensure that compensation is paid to the victims' families.

The plaintiffs include Shahin Moghadam, Mehrzad Zaran, and Ali Gorji, as previously reported by CBC News. Some of the plaintiffs chose not to disclose their names.

In mid-2021, a special group of Canadian forensic experts prepared a report that accused Iran of negligence and lack of reasonableness regarding the shooting down of the Ukrainian passenger plane. Iran criticized this report, calling it "highly politicized."

It should be recalled that the Boeing aircraft of Ukraine International Airlines was destroyed on the morning of January 8, 2020, shortly after taking off from Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport. There were 167 passengers and 9 crew members on board. All were killed.

Iranian authorities admitted that the aircraft was unintentionally shot down by military personnel due to "human error."
