Azerbaijani Soldier Shoots Colleagues

An Azerbaijani State Border Service (SBS) soldier has shot three of his colleagues with a service weapon, reports Interfax-Azerbaijan, citing a statement from the State Border Service.

“On January 2, 2022, around 18:00, junior sergeant on active duty Avazli Elkhan Muhammad oglu opened fire for unknown reasons towards his colleagues in the service area of the special border unit 'Gubadli,'” the report states.

As a result, three soldiers were killed: senior lieutenant Ismailov Yusuf Ismail oglu and junior sergeants Jalilzadeh Amil Fuad oglu and Ibrahimov Rafail Natik oglu. Avazli himself has abandoned his weapon and fled the scene. Measures are currently being taken to locate him,” the statement mentions.

Employees from the State Border Service and the Prosecutor General's Office are undertaking appropriate actions regarding the incident.
