Baghdad's Green Zone Targeted by Shelling
Early on Sunday morning, Baghdad's Green Zone was shelled. This neighborhood in the Iraqi capital houses embassies, including the U.S. embassy, according to a report by Agence France-Presse that cites a statement from Iraqi security forces, as conveyed by RIA Novosti.
According to the agency's quoted statement, the first rocket was intercepted in the air, while the second 'landed in a square, damaging two vehicles.'
Baghdad's Green Zone, as well as the international airport adjacent to a military airfield, occasionally falls victim to rocket attacks from makeshift launch sites. Additionally, foreign military bases within Iraq are also targeted. In many cases, such incidents do not result in casualties or significant damage among the civilian population.
