Media to Be Held Accountable for Referencing Unidentified Sources

The National Assembly today adopted the draft amendments to the Media Law authored by members of the "Civil Contract" faction in the second reading and in full.

The draft stipulates that media outlets will be held responsible for referencing fake sources. It proposes to define an unidentified source as a website with a registered domain and hosting, or an account, channel, or page of an internet site or application whose owner’s identifying information is missing, obviously false, or incomplete, preventing the identification of the source’s owner.

Changes have also been made to the provisions regarding the accreditation of journalists, establishing that if a media outlet does not submit a financial report and has not provided the identifying information stipulated by law, the application for accreditation will be subject to rejection.
