Former Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan Charged
The Armenian National Security Service has announced that former Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan has been charged following an ongoing multi-episode criminal investigation by the Anti-Corruption Committee. Sufficient evidence has been gathered to establish that Gasparyan, during his tenure in various government positions from 2000 to 2018, abused his official powers, committed official forgery, engaged in substantial misappropriation of funds, and was involved in other corrupt activities.
As a result, Gasparyan allegedly acquired property that greatly exceeded the legal income of himself and his family members through criminal means, including expensive homes and vehicles that he concealed by registering them under the names of related individuals.
The charges also state that Gasparyan's wife, who was appointed to the Military Police of the Ministry of Defense in 2010-2011, failed to attend her job and neglected her duties. Gasparyan, utilizing his official position, is accused of arranging her salary payments totaling over 17 million AMD through subordinate employees. Furthermore, between 2011 and 2018, while serving in the police, his wife inadequately performed her responsibilities and was absent from Armenia for extended periods without proper authorization, leading to an unjustified payment of over 19 million AMD.
Additionally, it was found that their daughter, assigned to the police from 2015 to 2018, did not show up for work or fulfill any duties, yet Gasparyan allegedly did not take necessary actions despite knowing this, resulting in a payment of approximately 9 million AMD.
