If Azerbaijan Joins the EAEU, Then All of Armenia Will Become an Area of Free Movement for Azerbaijanis, Political Scientist
The corridor that Azerbaijanis are discussing was never even considered from the beginning. Political scientist Benyamin Matevosyan stated this at a press conference today, December 4. He noted, 'Even Nikol Pashinyan, during his famous recent press conference, stated that the formulation of the corridor is clearly outlined in the November 9 document. When this corridor is mentioned, it refers to the Lachin corridor, which is under Russian control and responsibility. If there were any processes related to the logic of the Zangezur corridor, it would have been recorded on some paper or would occur among verbal agreements. Of course, Azerbaijan would want a way through the Syunik region without paying customs duties, but the corridor being discussed in Azerbaijan, which is used to scare the Armenian political arena, does not exist.'
According to the political scientist, if Azerbaijan joins the EAEU, then the entire territory of Armenia will become an area of free movement for Azerbaijanis. 'And in that case, we will not have any fantastic revenues,' he added.
Commenting on the arrest of the legendary commander of the Sisakan detachment, Ashot Minasiyan, the political scientist noted that this process corresponds to the logic of the election results of June 20. 'At least at the news level, Azerbaijani websites have covered this event, writing that the person who threatened Pashinyan with a military coup has been arrested. This is in the interests of Azerbaijan, and it derives from Azerbaijan's interests,' he said.
It should be noted that last year, alongside the protests against the November 9 statement, criminal cases were initiated for organizing protests during the state of emergency and preparing for the alleged assassination of Pashinyan. During that time, dozens of opposition and civil society figures were arrested, including Ashot Minasiyan, who was charged with seizing power, preparing for the assassination of a public official, and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
