Vegetable Prices Surge Sharply as Inflation Continues
Significant price increases have been recorded in Armenia's consumer market. According to ArmLur.am, food prices rose by 3.7% in November compared to October, primarily driven by a 4.8% increase in fruit prices and a staggering 16.4% rise in vegetable prices. In just one month, vegetable prices have climbed by 16.4%, while fruit prices rose by 4.8%.
The report also indicated that dairy products, cheese, and eggs have seen price hikes. For example, in November, the dairy and cheese market experienced a 3.5% increase compared to October, while egg prices surged by 6%. Over the past year, egg prices have skyrocketed by 26.2%; previously costing 60-65 drams, they are now being sold at 75-80 drams or more.
Bread prices have also increased, with flour prices rising by 3.6% and bread prices by 2.7%. According to the Statistical Committee of Armenia, the bakery and grain market experienced a 2.6% increase in November compared to October, while cereals saw a 3.5% rise. Additionally, sugar prices have increased by 2.3% in a month, officially rising by 20.6% over the past year.
Beverages and tobacco products have also gone up by 0.2%. Coffee, tea, cocoa, and non-alcoholic beverages are not exempt from this trend either. Experts suggest that a new wave of price increases may be on the horizon as the New Year approaches, a period typically associated with rising goods prices.
