Over 400 Violations Found in Kuzbass Mines After Tragic Accident at Listvyazhnaya Coal Mine That Claimed 51 Lives
The Attorney General's Office of Russia has initiated inspections in Kuzbass mines following the recent accident at the Listvyazhnaya coal mine, which resulted in the discovery of 449 violations, as reported by the administration.
According to Russian media, citing the agency's statement, 180 administrative offense cases and 1 criminal case for negligence have been initiated. The main violations are related to safety measures, non-compliance with miners' working hours, and the failure to provide personal protective equipment and gear.
An emergency incident occurred on the morning of November 25 at the Listvyazhnaya mine located in the Belovsky district of Kemerovo Region. The tragedy resulted in the deaths of 51 individuals, including five rescuers.
According to official reports, 76 people were injured, of whom 64 have been hospitalized. Kuzbass authorities have cited a methane explosion as a probable cause of the accident, while the exact causes will be determined by a special commission.
