Yoga Expert from the USA Robbed in Yerevan: Loss Estimated at Approximately $50,000
A criminal case has been initiated for a particularly large theft at the Central Police Department. According to Shamshyan.com, the case was opened following the report of theft from Gevorg Vardanyan, a 62-year-old US citizen registered in Kotayk province, at the Armenian Yoga Federation located at 43 Israelian Street in Yerevan.
In a conversation with a photojournalist, a relative of Gevorg Vardanyan, whose name is currently not disclosed, stated: “The incident occurred on Thursday, November 25, in the evening at the Armenian Yoga Federation. Between approximately 8:30 PM and 9:30 PM, Gevorg’s backpack was stolen from the federation, which contained gold jewelry belonging to him and his family, including two rings for men and women, with a total value of around $50,000.”
The thief or thieves also stole Gevorg’s daughter's Armenian passport, the ownership certificate of his newly purchased house in Garni village, Kotayk province, and various property documents. Additionally, there was $1,000 in cash and other personal belongings in the backpack. Shortly after the incident, about 5-10 minutes later, Gevorg contacted the Central Police Department, where he provided detailed explanations regarding what had happened.
After providing his explanation, Gevorg, along with two police officers, returned to the scene of the theft at the Armenian Yoga Federation, where law enforcement officials conducted a site investigation. After providing an explanation to the Central Police Department, Gevorg was considered a victim, and it seemed that the police officers regarded their work as complete. However, we hinted and later requested that there are surveillance cameras in the area. If the footage is accessed quickly, we are confident that the thief or thieves will be identified. However, to date, we have no information about whether the footage was obtained or not. Distressed by the incident, Gevorg departed for the USA on the morning of November 26.
According to G. Shamshyan, officers from the criminal investigation department of the Central Police Department have obtained video recordings from several nearby locations and are currently analyzing them, hoping that this will also help in solving the theft that occurred at the Armenian Yoga Federation.
