Why the Police Propose to Shorten the Validity Period of Armenian Passports
As already reported, the police propose to issue passports with a validity period of only 2 years instead of the current 10 years. According to the police, the necessity arises from the fulfillment of a directive issued during the meeting of the State Legal Committee on September 29, 2021.
EXPLANATION
The proposed decision regarding amendments to the Armenian government's December 25, 1998, number 821 decree is currently under consideration. According to the current regulations, Armenian citizens receive passports valid for 10 years, with the exception of citizens under the age of 16 and those liable for military service. Based on the directive issued in the meeting of the State Legal Committee on September 29, 2021 (KA/174-2021), the presented draft proposes to reduce the validity period of Armenian passports established by the government decree number 821 to 2 years.
