City Hall Confirms: Russian Company to Design Ajapnyak Metro Station
The Yerevan City Hall confirms the information that the Russian company "Metrogiprotrans" has won the competition for the design of the metro station in the Ajapnyak administrative district. In a conversation with "Armenpress", the spokesperson for the Mayor of Yerevan, Hakob Karapetyan, emphasized that this pertains to winning the competition for the design, not the construction of the station.
When asked how long the design work for the station would take, the Mayor's press secretary could not provide a specific timeline, clarifying that the process is being carried out by the Armenian government, and the City Hall plays a purely technical intermediary role in the process.
The Mayor’s spokesperson also commented on the question regarding when, according to the City Hall's plans, the Ajapnyak metro station is expected to commence operations. "It is difficult to introduce such specificity on this issue. The process has already been significantly delayed. But the fact is that the matter, at least, is in progress," Karapetyan responded.
Earlier, Valery Abramson, the chairman of the board of directors of "Metrogiprotrans", stated that the design work for the station would take one and a half years; however, if the Armenian government approves the proposal, the company will actively and diversely work on splitting the design into several phases and starting various construction works.
At the same time, according to Abramson, "Metrogiprotrans" is ready to invest $500 million into the overall development of Yerevan's metro system. The Ajapnyak metro station is intended to connect the administrative district with the "Barekamutyun" station and will significantly ease traffic in the city once operational.
The Yerevan Metro named after Karen Demirchyan currently has 10 stations and more than 12 kilometers of total operational track length. The fleet of metro cars consists of 45 cars, of which 33 are in operation.
