Video: How a Young Man Commits Theft from a Terminal in Yerevan

On October 10, at 13:12, the director of a limited liability company called the police to report that about half an hour earlier, the door of a payment terminal on Griboedov Street in the capital had been broken into using technical means, and cash drawers were stolen.

A police operational group from the Arabkir division promptly arrived at the scene and undertook all necessary measures. The occurrences of theft from terminals are not rare, and the police have substantial experience in solving such cases. However, there were peculiarities in this incident.

Firstly, such acts typically happen during the night rather than in broad daylight, and second, the amount stolen was notably large—over 2.5 million drams.

On the same day, a criminal case was initiated in the regional investigative department. Analyzing all the peculiarities and developing hypotheses, the detectives from Arabkir initiated operational-investigative measures, which yielded results two days later, on October 12.

A 29-year-old man from the Davtashen district of the capital was found near his residence at 9:25 AM, and his accomplice, a 33-year-old resident of Margaryan Street, was located five minutes later, near his home. Both were detained on suspicion of theft and brought to the investigation department, where they confessed to the crime.

According to their testimony, the hypothesis of the detectives regarding the mechanism of the theft was confirmed. Having previously agreed, they first transferred 2 million drams from one of their accounts to that same terminal, which they then received and cashed out, after which they broke the terminal and retrieved the cash they had just accessed, plus an additional 600,000 drams.

A total of 2 million 600 thousand drams stolen has been recovered, and the circumstances are being clarified during the preliminary investigation.
