Life in Armenia is Becoming More Expensive Day by Day: Details from 'Zhoghovurd'

'Zhoghovurd' newspaper reports: 'It is a well-known fact that life in Armenia is becoming more expensive day by day. According to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia, food prices in September of this year have increased by 15.4 percent compared to the same period last year. However, it is also notable that global food prices have risen, which indicates that price increases are being recorded worldwide. Armenia has not remained unaffected in this regard.

On the other hand, it should be noted that freight transportation tariffs have increased in Armenia. According to experts, the increased cost of freight transport is the reason why not only inflation has been recorded in the consumer market of our republic, but also non-food goods have become more expensive. For example, the price of gasoline has significantly risen, with regular gasoline now costing 500 drams per liter.

In the republic, railway freight transportation has decreased by 9.9 percent, with the export of goods decreasing by 14.2 percent and imports decreasing by 23.5 percent. Domestic railway freight transportation has also sharply declined, with a drop of 4.6 percent. The volume of air freight transportation represents a very small figure in the total, but even in that small volume, a 4 percent increase has been recorded, with a 67.9 percent increase in imports. Exports, however, have decreased by 20.8 percent.'
