Mass Protests Announced in Georgia in Support of Saakashvili
A mass protest demanding the release of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili will take place in Tbilisi's Freedom Square on October 14 at 18:00 local time, announced Nika Melia, the chairman of the United National Movement party, during a rally in Zugdidi, as reported by Sputnik Georgia.
“We must definitely gather in Tbilisi, and we need to be many. On October 14, we should be as numerous as we haven't been in the last 10 years. And the main reason for our gathering is our desire and duty that Mikheil Saakashvili should not be where he should not be,” Melia stated.
He invited all parties to the protest and called on supporters not to take offense at those who refuse to attend. “It is their right, and they can do what they want,” he noted.
Saakashvili was arrested in Georgia on October 1 and is currently being held in a prison in Rustavi.
