Saakashvili Declares Hunger Strike

Former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has declared a hunger strike while in prison. This was announced by Georgia's Public Defender Nino Lomjaria, as reported by dw.com.

As explained by the Ombudsman, Saakashvili considers the charges against him to be politically motivated, viewing himself as a political prisoner. Lomjaria also stated that Saakashvili, as a citizen of Ukraine, wishes to meet with the country's consul.
