Convict from 'Armavir' Penitentiary Bribes Head of Facility Section with Construction Materials Worth 214,000 AMD
The investigation into the bribery case involving an employee of the penitentiary institution has been completed at the Armavir regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee. Charges have been brought against three individuals, as reported by the Investigative Committee.
During the pre-trial proceedings, investigative and other procedural actions were carried out, leading to the clarification of the circumstances of the case. It was established and substantiated during the investigation that an inmate of the 'Armavir' penitentiary institution gave bribery in significant amounts to the head of one of the facility sections through an intermediary, with the intent of obtaining illegal actions in his favor, namely, protection and tacit approval, in the form of construction materials worth a total of 214,000 AMD.
The investigation revealed sufficient factual data indicating that the convict, with the help of another inmate serving time in the same penitentiary, agreed to provide the above-mentioned public official with construction materials as a bribe upon the latter's request to facilitate the use of a mobile phone, allow escape from the cell, enable free movement, and assist in the transfer of prohibited items into the penitentiary.
To transfer the construction materials that were the subject of the bribe, the convict approached his apprentice, requesting him to purchase the necessary construction goods and transport them to the location specified by the penitentiary's public official, being previously informed about the arrangement regarding the bribe between him and the head of the section.
Based on the gathered sufficient evidence, the convict has been charged under the second part of Article 312 of the RA Criminal Code, the intermediary under the first part of Article 313, and the apprentice under the first part of Article 312. The investigation has concluded, and the criminal case has been sent to the court with the accusatory conclusion.
As for the bribery received by the public official of the penitentiary institution, the pre-trial investigation of the criminal case has been conducted by the RA Special Investigative Service, as per the jurisdiction of the investigation.
