The National Assembly Fully Approved the Community Mergers Bill

The National Assembly today fully approved the legislative package amending the law on "Administrative Territorial Division of the Republic of Armenia" and the law on "Local Self-Government" in its second reading.

A total of 63 deputies voted in favor of the project, with no abstentions or opposing votes.

The Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, Gnel Sanosyan, presented the bill, stating that as a result of the mergers, there will be 78 communities, including Yerevan.

Minister Gnel Sanosyan reported that several changes had been made based on numerous proposals. In particular, the center of the newly merged community of Araks in the Armavir region has been moved from Jrarat to the village of Gay.

Additionally, in another change, eight settlements will merge with Nor Hajn, resulting in the newly merged communities of Nor Hajn and Yeghvard.

It should be noted that the opposition factions “Hayastan” and “Pativ Unem” did not participate in the voting.
