The Permanent Snow-Covered Areas of Mount Ararat Are Melting

Recent global warming has led to the rapid melting of ice and snow on Mount Ararat, causing serious concern among environmentalists. This phenomenon could significantly damage Turkey's tourism sector, particularly mountaineering, according to ermenihaber.am.

Turkish media report that even the permanent snow-covered areas of Mount Ararat are melting due to the hot weather. Furthermore, there is a flow of dirt and sewage spilling into the villages located on the slopes of Ararat.

Turkish mountaineer and guide Mustafa Tekin has expressed concerns that the current generation will witness the complete melting of the snow on the peak of Ararat. He warns that the situation is extremely dire.

The heights of the Greater and Lesser Ararat are 5,165 meters and 3,925 meters, respectively. Ararat is often referred to as the “Roof of Turkey.” It is important to note that the Turks have changed the name of Mount Ararat and refer to it as “Ağrı Dağı” in their maps and documentation.
