Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan Will Remain in Custody

The Court of General Jurisdiction of Syunik Province, presided over by Gnel Gasparyan, has rejected the defense's motion to replace Goris Mayor Arush Arushanyan's detention with bail. This was reported to Tert.am by Arush Arushanyan's lawyer, Erik Aleksanyan.

According to him, the court's three-page decision is unfounded. “I have reviewed the decision, and we will definitely appeal it. It merely states in two paragraphs that remaining at liberty could obstruct the proceedings,” he said, noting that the court referenced the severity of the charged act, which he claims is not a sufficient reason.

Erik Aleksanyan stated that all witnesses in the case, including Lusine Avetyan, have been interrogated. He argued that there is no point in discussing the risk of influencing witnesses involved in the case. The lawyer cited decisions from the European Court that indicate such risks are reduced during the trial phase. “The likelihood of obstruction noted by the courts during the pre-trial proceedings has decreased,” he detailed.
