Imprisoned Officer Claims Colonel Received New Position Instead of Being Held Accountable

Recently, Major Gevorg Gevorgyan, responsible officer of the artillery division of military unit N of the Defense Army, was arrested as part of a criminal case initiated regarding the 44-day war. Jalal Harutyunyan has been interrogated within the framework of the case, and it has become known to ArmLur.am that Colonel Genadi Baghdasaryan of the army's artillery has also been questioned in connection with the criminal case.

Interestingly, the detained officer's attorney, Gor Gevorgyan, informed the media that the reason for Gevorgyan's arrest is baseless and that he has shown no inactivity. According to him, there are other responsible parties, one of whom is Colonel Genadi Baghdasaryan, who has not been held accountable; instead, he has been given a new position in the Ministry of Defense.

It should be noted that the Investigative Committee reported that as a result of extensive investigative and other procedural actions conducted within the framework of a criminal case under the jurisdiction of the Military Investigative Main Department, sufficient factual data has been obtained indicating that on September 27, 2020, during the state of war declared by the RA government, the responsible officer of the artillery division of military unit N, driven by personal interests and with the goal of saving his life, demonstrated inactivity which led to serious consequences. On August 25, 2021, charges were brought against him under part 4 of Article 375 of the RA Criminal Code. The prosecuting authority submitted a request to the court to choose pre-trial detention as a measure of constraint, which was granted on August 28. The preliminary investigation of the criminal case is ongoing.
