Photos: Azerbaijani Forces Open Fire Targeting Peaceful Settlements Near Shushi, Says Artsakh Ombudsman
On August 24, throughout the day and until late at night, Azerbaijani forces actively and continuously opened fire from positions located towards the communities of Shosh and Mkhitarashen, targeting Armenian positions and the nearby peaceful Armenian settlements. This was reported by the Ombudsman of Artsakh, Gegham Stepanian.
The fragments of various munitions fired towards the Armenian positions located opposite the village of Mkhitarashen in the Askeran region reached residential areas of the village. Additionally, on August 24, around 10:00 PM, gunfire from the Shushi area damaged the home of one of the community residents.
The behavior of Azerbaijan once again highlights the necessity for Azerbaijani positions located near peaceful settlements to be removed to such a distance that direct targeting of civilian areas is impossible, as they pose an immediate and real threat to the life, health, and other vital rights of the people of Artsakh, as well as their physical and mental integrity.
The illegal actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces disrupt the normal life and activities of the peaceful population in border settlements. I once again emphasize the importance of implementing clear mechanisms for investigating incidents, which will allow for holding those responsible accountable and preventing further occurrences.
