iCar. Apple Plans to Start Electric Vehicle Production
The American technology giant intends to start its own electric vehicle production in 2024. This is reported by Kommersant, citing the Apple Insider portal.
According to the source, Apple's management is already holding meetings with Asian auto manufacturers. The company is specifically discussing whether Apple Car can ramp up serial production of electric vehicles due to a shortage of semiconductors.
Additionally, the American company is concerned about a shortage of several other components, but no further details are provided.
It is noted that Apple initially planned to launch electric vehicle production in 2027. The Taiwanese company Foxconn, which produces various components, including for Apple, intends to supply 10 percent of all parts for electric vehicles produced globally between 2025-2027.
It is worth mentioning that another global leader in smartphone production, the Chinese company Xiaomi, recently completed the registration of its subsidiary that will be engaged in electric vehicle manufacturing.
