Georgia Refuses AstraZeneca Vaccine Donation: Reason Known
Georgia has declined to accept a donation of 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine from the Latvian government. As reported by News-Georgia, this information was confirmed by the head of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Amiran Gamkrelidze.
Gamkrelidze noted that the AstraZeneca vaccine was offered to Georgia not only by Latvia but also by other EU countries. According to the expert, the refusal of assistance is due to the low acceptance of this particular vaccine in Georgia, and this decision is not politically motivated.
As of September 2, over 1.2 million vaccinations have been conducted in Georgia. The number of fully vaccinated citizens against the coronavirus stands at 421,785, which accounts for 14.8 percent of the adult population.
