18-Year-Old Citizen in Intensive Care and One Young Person Dies: COVID-19 'Youthening'

The Delta variant of the coronavirus is characterized by a higher degree of transmissibility, and the progression of the disease is more severe. This was stated by Armenia's Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan during a government meeting.

“We are observing a trend of younger individuals becoming ill. Last week, I reported that we have young people aged 20 and 28. Sadly, I have to say that one of them has died. At this moment, we also have an 18-year-old young man who is in the intensive care unit. This is indeed an alarming signal for all of us to understand and to behave in a more disciplined manner moving forward, with everyone contributing to the public responsibility of protecting the health and lives of our population,” said the Minister.

Currently, we have about 1,600 hospital beds available, of which 1,400 are occupied. 650 citizens are in serious condition, and 126 are in critical condition.

“51 citizens are connected to ventilators. We are currently carrying out hospitalizations for citizens, we have no waiting list, and we are also expanding new hospital beds on the go,” noted Anahit Avanesyan.
