European Court Representative Confirms Unquestionable Evidence of 80 Captured Soldiers
European Court of Human Rights representative for Armenian prisoners of war in Azerbaijan, lawyer Siranush Sahakyan, announced that there is unquestionable evidence regarding 80 additional soldiers who have been captured.
In a press briefing, Sahakyan stated, “The question remains, however, about how long they survived after their capture or whether they are alive at this moment; we do not have sufficient evidence on those issues.” She emphasized that apart from the officially confirmed 45 prisoners of war, 80 more should have actually been repatriated.
“The reason why Azerbaijan does not confirm their repatriation may be due to two factors: first, politically, to avoid taking responsibility for the fate of this new number of individuals; second, the captured civilians or soldiers may have been tortured and killed,” she added.
