What provocative actions are the Azerbaijanis taking at the border? The mayor of Geghamasar provides details

Azerbaijanis continue to set fire to grassy areas in the border regions of the Gegharkunik province. Currently, there are fire outbreaks in Sotk. This information was provided to Sputnik Armenia by the mayor of Geghamasar, Hakob Avetyan.

"It is not excluded that new outbreaks will occur in other areas. The Azerbaijanis are deliberately shooting something like a 'salute' that lands and causes fires," he said.

Firefighters and some residents of the village went up to the neighboring mountains yesterday to extinguish the fires in the areas of the Geghamasar community, including Sotk, Kut, Azat, and Norabak, but today new outbreaks have emerged in Sotk.

Avetyan stated that a significant problem arises, especially in areas where firefighters cannot access with their vehicles. In such cases, local residents attempt to put out the fires themselves.

According to the mayor, the Azerbaijanis, who have illegally seized Armenian territory, are setting fire to Armenian areas and observing the damage the fire can cause while trying to create panic among the people.

"People's moods are very bad. After all these issues, this has now added to the situation, and there cannot be a good mood," Avetyan noted.

He emphasized that it is possible for the fire to reach the village area; however, in such cases, the fire trucks can extinguish the fires.

It should be noted that on August 30, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, Arman Tatoyan, published videos and reported that starting at 11 a.m., Azerbaijani military personnel deliberately ignited fires near the villages of Sotk and Kut, close to their tents. During the day, the fires in the direction of Sotk village in Gegharkunik province were extinguished, while the fires near Kut were not extinguished and spread due to weather conditions.
