Unknown Disease Claims Nearly 70 Lives in India
The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has reported 68 deaths in the last week due to an unidentified fever virus. According to RIA Novosti, citing the local health department, among the deceased are 40 children.
It has been reported that 12 of the deaths occurred in just one day. Many of the sick exhibited high fever, dehydration, and a drop in platelet levels. Some patients have displayed symptoms typical of dengue fever, including high fever, severe headaches, muscle pain, nausea, and swollen lymph nodes.
“The situation is causing alarm in the districts. Swamp conditions and the lack of sanitary conditions are reasons for the spread of the disease,” said doctor Manish Asijian in an interview with a local media outlet.
Authorities emphasize that the combination of high temperatures and humidity, caused by heavy rains, has turned affected areas into perfect breeding grounds for infectious diseases transmitted by blood-feeding insects.
