The State Must Intensively Invest in Effective and Rapid Implementation of DNA Research of Bodies: Human Rights Defender
The Human Rights Defender, Arman Tatoyan, issued a statement on the occasion of the International Day of Victims of Enforced Disappearances:
“Unfortunately, as a result of the war in September-November 2020, we have a large number of missing persons among our compatriots, and the search for them is still ongoing. The politicization of humanitarian and human rights issues by Azerbaijani authorities, along with the failure to disclose the actual number of prisoners, has led to additional hardships and psychological suffering inflicted on people. Many individuals have gone missing, been killed, or tortured due to Azerbaijani anti-Armenian policies, and there are factual, irrefutable evidence regarding these actions.
Alongside this, our state must make every possible effort to ensure the effective and rapid implementation of DNA research of bodies. While there are objective factors contributing to the prolongation of the process, properly organizing communication with families can alleviate the additional psychological suffering faced by these families. We must all understand that behind each person considered missing lies the pain and misfortune of a family, and the endless wait for the return of a parent for their children.
Within the framework of the Human Rights Defender's authority, we are taking all necessary steps to ensure the rights of individuals.”
