The Main Significance of the Syunik Corridor: Stepanyan Danielyan

Political scientist Stepanyan Danielyan's commentary: “The main significance of the Syunik corridor is evident against the backdrop of the weakening of the USA. Turkey seeks to become one of the leading players in the new multipolar world, with the main game expected to unfold in Greater Central Asia and the Greater Middle East. This is, at the same time, a struggle for leadership and survival.

With the withdrawal of the chief policeman, the likelihood of military confrontation increases, much like what occurred during World Wars I and II. Back then, the absence of a leading superpower resulted in a power struggle among various great powers, during which one side had to suffer defeat, leading to the establishment of new rules of the game at the Potsdam Conference.

One of the crucial issues during the first and second world wars was the struggle for the communication routes essential for the movement of vital resources and troops. The control of communications passing through Armenia should not be viewed solely from an economic perspective but also in military terms. Naturally, the struggle is not just between Armenia and Azerbaijan; we are merely tools in the larger game. It is crucial to understand what issues the main players are addressing and what military strategies they will implement in the event of future confrontations. Right now is the time for positioning.”
