Ararat Mirzoyan's First Misstep

Ararat Mirzoyan's First Misstep

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports: "Only 11 days after Ararat Mirzoyan's appointment as Foreign Minister, he has already made his first misstep, making statements that contradict those made by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during the campaign.

The new Foreign Minister of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, sent a message on the occasion of the International Day of Enforced Disappearances, stating that "Armenian prisoners and hostages in Azerbaijan are subjected to torture and inhumane, degrading treatment. Cases of deprivation of their right to life have also been recorded. The illegal and fictitious trials of Armenian servicemen continue."

This means that the newly appointed minister acknowledges that Armenian prisoners are facing poor treatment in Azerbaijan, whereas during the campaign, Pashinyan claimed: "Those guys are fighting for the independence and sovereignty of Armenia in the jails of Baku. They will forgive us for staying in captivity for an extra month or two, but they will not forgive us if we compromise the independence of our country for their freedom." In essence, Pashinyan was asking the guys to be patient, while Mirzoyan is speaking about inhumane treatment towards them."
