Which Country Has Donated Half a Million Pounds for De-mining Artsakh?
The United Kingdom has allocated half a million pounds to support de-mining efforts in Artsakh and the surrounding regions. According to Armenpress, the funds will be used through the United Nations Development Programme to train relevant specialists who will assist in de-mining and make the areas in and around Artsakh safe for the population.
"The areas in and around Artsakh are among the most landmine-affected regions in the world, resulting in many civilian casualties or injuries that pose risks to livelihoods. With the UK's donation, UN expertise will be utilized to reduce the threats to civilian life in Armenia and Azerbaijan by providing appropriate training and technical de-mining support to those who are making these areas safer. However, there is much work ahead," said Wendy Morton, the UK Minister for European Neighbourhood and the Americas.
The United Kingdom has called on other countries to support the UN initiative to help thousands of individuals affected by the conflict.
