In the Near Future, Azerbaijan Will Try to Seize What It May Consider Possible, Says Abrahamyan

“Statements coming from Azerbaijan indicate that much broader provocations and aggression may occur,” said Tigran Abrahamyan, a member of the Armenian National Assembly’s ‘Honor` bloc and founder of the ‘Henaket’ analytical center, at a press conference. He emphasized that the authorities of Armenia have failed to act in accordance with the situation, and that this government is not responding adequately to the circumstances surrounding Armenia and Artsakh.

“Either this government does not deeply understand the risks and threats, or it does understand but has certain analyses provided by various structures. However, adequate solutions and actions aimed at neutralizing the enemy's dangers are not being implemented,” Abrahamyan stated.

According to the expert MP, Azerbaijan will not limit itself to the results of the war or the incursions on May 12, and in the future, it will attempt to seize what it may deem possible at that time. “The main slogan of the authorities has become irresponsibility,” Abrahamyan said.

The opposition lawmaker also presented details from his recent visit to Syunik. “I went to Syunik at a time when certain sections of the Goris-Kapan interstate road had been closed by the enemy. I took a detour, which I had previously traveled several times. In reality, the construction works that are currently ongoing on that road, about which the authorities are talking, should have started much earlier. The risks of Azerbaijani forces blocking the main road should have been assessed; however, either these assessments were not made, or there was no consistent response to them. The construction of the road, if I’m not mistaken, actively commenced two months ago,” Abrahamyan noted.

He mentioned that at the moment, traffic on that road is being organized in a somewhat different manner. “Just before reaching Vorotan from Goris, there was an Azerbaijani checkpoint after the war, and now there are three concrete barriers placed right in the middle of the highway. In the section of the road descending from Shurnukh toward Davit Bek, there was previously an Azerbaijani checkpoint located about 20-25 meters from the road, and concrete barriers have also been installed there. In that area, vehicles must now proceed slowly. I believe that, similar to the sections of the Goris-Stepanakert highway near the two entrances to Shushi, the Azerbaijani side has equipped it with technical means. According to my information, there are corresponding surveillance systems that identify individuals inside the vehicles; in this case, no new checks are being conducted by Azerbaijani servicemen on the two segments of Goris-Kapan road, but there is a possibility of identification with the appropriate technical means in that area to slow down traffic,” said the member of the ‘Honor` bloc.
