On August 18, by decree of President Armen Sarkissian, Major General Zhiraa Poghossyan was relieved from the position of commander of the 1st Army Corps. Days later, on August 26, Major General Artak Budaghyan, commander of the 4th Army Corps, met the same fate and was appointed as the commander of the Special Army Corps by another decree.

According to reliable information from Auroranews, as part of ongoing reforms in the armed forces, the 1st and 4th Corps have merged into the Special Army Corps. It should be noted that the 1st Army Corps of the RA Armed Forces was stationed in the city of Goris, Syunik Province, while the 4th Army Corps was located in Yeghegnadzor. It is possible that the new location of the Special Army Corps will also be in Goris.
