You Are Misleading the Public: Aram Sargsyan Responds to Sukiasyan's Statements About His Brother Vazgen Sargsyan
Aram Sargsyan, the brother of former Armenian Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Vazgen Sargsyan, has responded to statements made by Khachatur Sukiasyan, a member of the "Civil Contract" faction, regarding his brother. During his speech at the National Assembly, Sukiasyan claimed that "Vazgen Sargsyan did a very bad thing to Armenia," referring to the regime change in 1998.
"What does the power system have to do with telling the political leadership that they are wrong? Who is he, but did the political forces protect him? There was a coup in the country. I have interacted with Vazgen Sargsyan, Serzh Sargsyan, and Robert Kocharian. They created a very bad system, enslaved society," Sukiasyan stated.
In response, Sargsyan wrote on his Facebook page that the minister of defense who "united freedom fighters, built an army from scratch, liberated territories, and achieved victories" had the right to express an opinion on the issue of returning territories in Artsakh.
Following his speech, Sukiasyan told reporters that if Vazgen Sargsyan had been given a "proper assessment," Onik Gasparyan would not have done what he did, referring to the former Chief of Staff's call for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's resignation.
"I would take him unseriously and would not consider it necessary to address this individual if it were not based on lies. In 1998, the Ministry of Defense of Armenia did not issue a statement demanding the president's resignation, so the comparison with Onik Gasparyan's actions is either ignorance and incompetence or a simple intention to mislead the people," Sargsyan wrote.
Vazgen Sargsyan's brother concluded his thoughts by stating that there is no work to be done in the past, "the one who has done it has done it," and now it is necessary to focus on the future.
